This seminar will include a discussion of Massachusetts Construction Law, including the Prompt Pay Act and the recent amendments to the Mechanic's Lien Act. Additionally, contract and liability issues; employment law; and environmental law as they pertain to surveyors and engineers will be addressed.

    How to improve your chance of getting paid


    Federal and state anti-discrimination laws; MA laws affecting at-will employment relationship; legal considerations when undertaking layoffs/reduction-in-workforce; and problems relating to texting, employees' internet use, and social networking at work and how to avoid those problems.


    Environmental laws and regulations impacting the use and development of real property.

Seminar Speakers:
Colleen M. Nevin, Adler Pollock and Sheehan, PC
Ms. Nevin draws on deep litigation skills and experience-gained in part as a Chicago prosecutor, where she successfully argued cases before the Illinois Supreme Court and Appellate Court-to provide responsive, deft and passionate representation to her clients in complex commercial actions, including, contract and construction disputes, professional liability, products liability, and insurance defense, at both the trial and appellate court levels. 
Michael D. Chittick, Adler Pollock and Sheehan, PC
Mr. Chittick handles all facets of labor and employment law and related litigation, consistently finding efficient, practical solutions for his private and public sector clients.  He also frequently lectures on employment law and human resource matters.  Mike has successfully represented employers in labor arbitrations and employment discrimination matters. 
Kristen W. Sherman, Adler Pollock and Sheehan, PC
Ms. Sherman is a noted environmental law and litigation attorney who has secured significant judgments in Massachusetts and Rhode Island courts for her commercial, governmental and educational clients.  She brings to her dual practice significant high-level experience in complex hazardous and solid waste, asbestos, air emission, water pollution, septic system, UST and wetland matters.  For more than a decade she has been representing clients in state and federal courts.

Registration fee includes a sandwich lunch and all seminar handouts. Registration is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. MALSCE will give a 50% refund for cancellations made by Monday, April 4, 2011. No refunds will be given after this date. No-shows will be billed.
