MALSCE Education Trust Awards 2015 Scholarships and Grants

Type:  Featured News

During their last meeting, the MALSCE Education Trust Board of Trustees voted to award over $6,000 in scholarships and grants in 2015 to students and educators around New England. Recipients included several students studying surveying or engineering technology at the University of Maine and still more went elsewhere.

The MALSCE Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student presently enrolled full time as an undergraduate in an accredited College, University, Junior College, Technical Institute or Community College and majoring in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering. In 2015, the MALSCE Education Trust awarded $3,000 to students, including:

  • $2,000 to Myles Sykes, a senior at UMaine studying Surveying Engineering Technology, and
  • $1,000 to Joseph Vantassel, a senior at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute studying Civil Engineering.

MALSCE's UMaine Scholarship provides  a scholarship to a Massachusetts resident who is an incoming freshman (or transfer student) enrolled in the University of Maine Surveying Engineering Technology program (SET/SVT). James Santos, last year's winner, received his most recent $1000 semester payment this fall.

An endowment at UMaine called the MALSCE Scholarship also awarded $257 to Matthew LeBlanc, a senior studying Construction Engineering Technology.

The MALSCE Education Trust also awarded a $2000 grant to Paul Crofts, a teacher at Essex Technical High School, who contacted the MALSCE Education Trust in July. Paul utilizes land surveying in his teaching and introduces land surveying and engineering as career paths to his students. The grant is a donation toward Essex Technical High School's purchase of land surveying equipment for use during his classes.

The MALSCE Education Trust is a group of appointed volunteers from each MALSCE chapter with a mission is to provide educational opportunities to Massachusetts engineering and surveying students. The Trust also manages an endowment to ensure scholarships for the future. You can support the trust by attending or donating an item to be auctioned at the 2016 MALSCE Convention Benefit Auction on Friday, March 18, 2016. The MALSCE Education Trust also welcomes donations, which you can submit with this form
