During the annual board meeting portion of the dinner you will hear reports on MALSCE’s current undertakings and other matters impacting MALSCE and the land surveying and civil engineering professions.

Donate Items to the MALSCE Annual Benefit Auction

We are seeking your donation of items to be auctioned at the 2012 MALSCE Convention Benefit Auction to benefit the MALSCE Education Trust, which takes place from 5:00 – 6:00 PM on Friday, September 21. Please consider donating something of value, survey-related or not. The item can also be a service or a craft item. Individuals and companies donating items will receive an acknowledgement letter from the MALSCE Education Trust and will also be recognized for their generous donation at the auction.


To donate an item, simply bring it to the registration desk at the convention on Friday, September 21. If you wish to donate an item but cannot attend the convention drop it off at TEC, One Walnut Street, Boston, MA, by Wednesday, September 19.

Fall 2012 PLS and SIT Refresher Courses:

MALSCE is offering our Fall 2012 exam refresher courses at The Engineering Center in Boston on October 6, 2012.

Wentworth Reduces PLS Courses for FY2013

Due to low enrollments, the Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) has suspended the Professional Land Surveying Certificate for the year 2012-2013. However, WIT will continue offering the following courses to meet the needs of those individuals to prepare for their license exam:
  • Fall 2012 Semester – Massachusetts Regulations, class begins on Thursday, 9/13
  • Spring 2013 Semester – Legal I, class begins during the 2nd week of January 2013
  • Summer 2013 Semester – Legal II, class begins in May 2013

Support Dam safety, repair and removal bill, in the Massachusetts House of Representatives  MALSCE has been supporting SB 1985, An Act for dam safety, repair and removal.  The bill passed in the Massachusetts Senate and is currently in the Mass. House of Representatives Committee on Third Reading.

MassDOT Raises Salary Cap

Through ACEC/MA, we have been notified that on August 15, 2012, MassDOT increased the maximum direct labor rate to $60/hour for all new MassHighway Contracts.  If you have a current or pending MassHighway contract, please discuss this with your MassDOT Project Manager.

Two, three hour training sessions at The Engineering Center.
The sessions will focus on presentation and communication skills.  The program will be designed to help participants build confidence and credibility when presenting to clients.  In addition, they will increase their ability to sell their ideas and gain commitment.
