Thanks to the efforts of External Affairs Director Abbie Goodman, MALSCE was recently able to recognize National Surveyors Week in Massachusetts by obtaining a proclamation from Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito which recognized the week of March 21 - 26 as Massachusetts Professional Land Surveyors Week. 

It reads:
A Proclamation
WHEREAS Land surveying is the oldest scientific profession of the civilized world, dating back more than 5,000 years; and
WHEREAS Since the first surveyor in the Bay Colony plotted the town of Charlestown in 1692, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has benefited greatly from the hard work and resourcefulness of those affiliated with the land surveying profession; and
WHEREAS The property rights of citizens are dependent upon the skill of professional land surveyors who have mapped and landmarked these properties; and
WHEREAS Members of the land surveying profession in the Commonwealth subscribe to a rigid code of ethics, demonstrating a firm commitment to upholding the interest of the public at large;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Charles D. Baker, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim March 21st to the 26th, 2016 to be,
And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
